Overview

Encoding and authoring are the steps that need to be taken if you'd like to have a digital presentation, but don't have a master to work from. Working with your video footage, Word documents, pdfs, images and audio, we can create a presentation for you. First we'll encode the video, and then author the content, which will create master files for you to use in a variety of contexts: DVD, CD-ROM, or Web.

Encoding

Video footage that is intended for use in DVD, CD, and web publishing must first be encoded. Encoding is the process of taking video from a master source and compressing it and converting it into formats that the destination medium recognizes. This step also takes place for preparing video footage for web based applications, which can, and often, work in conjunction with DVD and CD publishing. Video footage can be converted to a number of different formats, depending on the media used, software program used, and the publisher's demands for what type of quality and size they require for the video to have within the program. Once your video is encoded, it is prepared for authoring for a variety of applications.

Authoring

Menu design, chapter linking, closed captioning, and motion menus are some of the features of DVD and CD-ROM authoring. Basically, authoring is the process of organizing the way your material is communicated. This material can consist of encoded video, images, documents (pdf, Word, etc.), and audio. Additional features include adding 5.1 Surround Sound, slide shows, director's commentary, alternate language tracks, motion video thumbnails, and more.
